Slemish Mountain near Broughshane, Ballymena in County Antrim, dominates the Braid Valley. St Patrick spent six years there as a shepherd in his youth. It is said that he called it Sliabh Mise ("my mountain") and from this its takes its name. Traditionally, pilgrims climb to the top of the mountain on St Patrick's Day, 17th March.
