When the road around the coast was built a roadside hostelry erected about halfway between Larne and Glenarm. It was called ‘The Halfway House’ and passengers from Larne would stop here for refreshments on the journey to Glenarm and further. A mail car with about a dozen passengers back to back would transport those who wished to see the pleasures of the Antrim coast. ‘The Halfway House’ is now a hotel owned from the turn of the century by Bernard McQuillan, it was subsequently bought by Harry Legge from John McKibben and Son in 1961. It was later sold to Dave McAuley (retired boxer) and his wife, who are now the current owners.
