Glenarm Village County Antrim Northern Ireland PDF Print E-mail

Glenarm is the oldest village in the Glens of Antrim, dating back to Norman times.  The village is the seat of the MacDonnells who once occupied Dunluce Castle.  The village is now a conservation area and its picturesque Main Street leads to Glenarm Forest, a tranquil place to walk and from which to view Glenarm Castle across the river.  The Layde Walk allows the visitor to travel along the path of the old waterway high above the village, offering spectacular views of the village and its surroundings.

The entrance to Glenarm Castle, the Barbican Gate, is in the centre of the village but the Castle itself remains closed to the public until the annual open days in July which attract visitors to the village from far and near into the locality.

The latest addition to Glenarm is the restoration of the distinctive Limestone Harbour and the entrance to forty full serviced pontoon berths are available for residents and visiting yachts in this attractive deep and secure harbour.

Glenarm is an ideal stopping off point for boats travelling to and from the Western Isles of Scotland and has proven a welcoming haven for visitors from around the world.
